Job Summary
Collaborating with academic partners, faculty and staff, the Specialist enhances the academic success of nursing students by providing targeted assistance in both didactic and clinical learning concepts, including patient-care simulations. This role involves preparing and implementing learning support programs, which encompass scheduling, registering, and organizing sections and learning groups. The specialist works closely with students, both individually and in small groups, to assess their learning styles, identify strengths, and uncover opportunities for academic development. They create personalized remediation plans to support students in achieving their academic and professional goals, including clinical learning lab and simulated patient-care experiences. Additionally, the Specialist analyzes statistics and prepares comprehensive reports to inform the effectiveness of learning support programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide instruction, remediation, and evaluation in didactic and clinical learning concepts, including patient-care simulations.
- Demonstrate comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of nursing concepts, competencies, and current practices to effectively provide academic support to students.
- Exhibit thorough knowledge of university programs and accurately communicate academic policies and regulations to students, ensuring they understand their academic requirements and options.
- Demonstrate effective behaviors and accountability in meeting standards of service excellence to students, fellow team members, and external agencies.
- Communicate and document students’ academic progress to academic leadership.
- Coordinate and supervise students during lab experiences, providing individual guidance for practice and remediation of technical skills as requested by faculty and students.
- Participate in the planning and scheduling of open lab utilization times to ensure availability, effective communication, and appropriate resources.
- Support the preparing and implementation of the learning support plans, programs, strategies, and actions in alignment with the University/College strategies for enhancing students' learning experiences and education.
- Manage Learning Support social media accounts, along with publicity and awareness campaigns.
- Establish collaborative relationships with the Information Technology Services Directorate and other academic departments.
- Supervise peer tutors, graduate assistants, and teaching assistants.
- Establish constructive relationships with students, both individually and in groups, to assess their learning needs.
- Analyze statistics and prepare comprehensive reports to inform the effectiveness of learning support activities.
- Perform other tasks and duties that may be required to meet the role's requirements and the aims of the college and University
Qualifications:
Education and certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in nursing from a reputable university.
- A Master’s degree in Nursing from a reputable university, with a preferred specialization in Medical-Surgical or Critical Care Nursing.
- Active registered nurse license from home country or country of residency.
- An educator license from Qatar’s Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) must be obtained within six months of employment.
- Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS CPR) required, ACLS preferred.
Languages
- Excellent English is required.
- Arabic is preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of three years of clinical experience as a registered general nurse following licensure.
- At least one year of experience in an academic environment providing classroom instruction or specialized tutoring support after obtaining the master’s degree.
- Has experience supervising nursing students at clinical sites and has taught clinical courses within the last five years of their professional experience.
