Applications are invited for appointment as Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer in the Master of Arts in Chinese Historical Studies (MACHS) programme in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 532347), to commence on August 15, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Chinese Historical Studies or a related field and approximately 3 years’ post-qualification teaching experience at the tertiary level. They should have a proven track record of excellence in teaching and demonstrate evidence of administrative experience in higher education settings. Those with less experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Lecturer. Preference will be given to those with expertise in modern and contemporary Chinese history, Hong Kong history, as well as history of the Lingnan areas. The appointee will be responsible for teaching MACHS and undergraduate courses, supervising dissertations, conducting tutorials and demonstrations, supporting curriculum design, and developing teaching materials, etc. Information on the structure, staff establishment, and course offerings of the School can be obtained at https://web.chinese.hku.hk.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary for Lecturer and 10% of basic salary for Assistant Lecturer.
