About us

The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) is a vibrant faculty based in the heart of London with a long tradition of world-leading research and teaching in physics, mathematics, chemistry, informatics and engineering.

About the role

We run a varied events programme including internal and external speaker events, industry engagement workshops, and major lectures often featuring Nobel Laureate speakers.  

We are seeking to appoint an Events Manager to join our friendly and dynamic Faculty Communications Team to manage and develop our events portfolio.  The role holder will be responsible for the management of our events and public engagement activities, ensuring the provision of an excellent end to end support. The role requires a pro-active, can-do attitude and someone who enjoys working with people. Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to stay calm under pressure, and manage a large portfolio of varied events and activities.

We are looking for an events professional able to communicate with diverse audiences and build collaborative relationships, able to work with, influence and negotiate with different stakeholders.

Experience of managing online registrations and of producing web and social media content to promote events are also desirable skills in a candidate, including an understanding of how best to reach an audience to encourage sign-ups.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered on an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent, relevant work experience.
  2. Significant experience in organising and running events, event management and logistics, including compliance for health and safety and risk management.
  3. Excellent organisational and time management skills including managing short-term tasks with long-term event planning, in a busy environment with competing priorities
  4. The ability to work to a high level of accuracy, with meticulous attention to detail while managing projects and multi-tasking effectively.
  5. Knowledge of using online registration platforms, web content management systems and social media to effectively manage, market and promote events.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills including experience of working with internal and external colleagues and organisations in a positive and collaborative manner.
  7. Ability to work on campus when events the Events Manager is responsible for, are taking place.
  8. Willingness to occasionally work outside of normal working hours when managing events, including evenings and weekends

Desirable criteria

  1. Project management skills and experience
  2. Expertise in crafting social media posts
  3. Experience in creating event design work in Canva or the Adobe Suite
  4. Experience of working in the HE sector.
